ABP Solent Gateway Phase 1a project has been shortlisted for Carbon Reduction Champion Award
ABP Solent Gateway operates Marchwood Military Port in Southampton and the port is being developed to better support the MOD and new and existing commercial customers.
The contractors for Solent Gateway Phase 1a, Ryebridge Construction, have been shortlisted for the Carbon Reduction Champion award at the 2025 Construction News Awards.
During the construction of Phase 1a, we transported 26,000 tonnes of material using two boatloads instead of relying on road transport.
This initiative successfully removed 7,600 lorry trips from the roads, preventing the emission of 600 metric tonnes of CO2 (calculated based on 25-tonne vehicles travelling 10 miles each).
The winners will be announced on Thursday 10 July.
We are proud of this initiative and pleased to work with Ryebridge to deliver construction materials via the port instead of local roads.
